Classic Style: Chanel Flats

Welcome to the Classic Style Series!

Throughout this series, I’ll be focusing on different pieces I’ve collected over the years or am hoping to add to my closet that are classic pieces to me: pieces that define my personal style, pieces that make me feel like myself, and pieces that might be a bit more of an investment than a trend.

These powder blue Chanel flats were my “something blue” for our wedding almost 5 years ago. I bought them gently used (I honestly don’t think they were ever worn), but they were still an investment. But, I couldn’t think of a more perfect shoe for the most special day. The tiny bows, the cap toes, the blue-but-not-too-blue color, the classic double C in an ever-so-tiny gold detail just below the ankle on each shoe. They make me smile every time I look at them. Sure, I might not wear them that often, but I know I will always have them.

If I had to define my style, I would call it feminine and a bit older than I am. I was the example of “what not to wear to gym class” during my first week of kindergarten. I refused to wear pants through most of elementary school, opting instead for bike shorts under skirts and dresses. I have also always had an appreciation for cap sleeves and cardigans, things more defining of my grandmother’s young adult years than mine. My college roommate said, when we were eighteen years old, that my destination after my destination looks like it could always potentially be ballet class.

My style has had to evolve in the sense that it’s had to become more functional over the past few years as I’ve moved through pregnancies, nursing, babies, and toddler years, but the staples are always there and I like to think I still dress like myself most days. And now that my nursing journey with Jacob is winding down, I’m looking forward to getting back to my some of my favorite staples!
