Small Business Gift Guide 2020: Boston & New England

The holiday season is here and, while I’m more behind on holiday shopping than ever before, I am definitely shopping small and local as much as I can. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we should support the businesses and shop owners that work hard every day to bring beautiful and original products to our communities as much as we can. I’m so excited to team up with my friends Sarah and Shannon to share our favorite small businesses that are local to each of us – Sarah lives in Northern Virginia and Shannon lives in Ohio, so there is plenty of variety in these amazing businesses!

For the Kiddos
Well Rested Baby: This gift would be one for kiddos and their parents. The WRB team guided our family through sleep training with each of our boys and has been immensely helpful since then, too. Ashley and her team provide full sleep training support for families of infants through preschoolers and lots of other programs including breastfeeding support and parenting support through milestones like potty training and the transition to toddlerhood and all of its feelings. A gift card to WRB for any tired or stressed mama would be a gift that keeps on giving!

Owen and Sage: If you’re looking for an original gift for a baby or toddler, look no further than Owen & Sage. Sarah, the owner, curates the most adorable collections of gifts and goods from shop owners and creators who use eco-friendly and sustainable materials and practices. I’m so excited that Owen & Sage has a storefront in Stow, MA this winter – I’ll definitely be going to check it out!

Gift It!: We have quite a few things from this small brand based out of New York (not exactly local, I know, but they’re so good!) and we use them literally every day. The tracing mats with the boys’ names on them are on the table for every meal, and we love practicing with the shapes and numbers tracing mats, too. Sarah makes everything to order and ships super fast – plus she’s just the sweetest!

For the Home
Minot’s Candle Company: Non-toxic, female owned, and smells like a dream. Minot’s Candle Co. is based on the South Shore so super local to me, and I’m not kidding that the Winter scent is what I want my whole holiday season to smell like. When I placed my first order, I wanted to be sure the candle would be safe for my allergies since so many candles use coconut wax and other nut-based products, and the shop owner contacted her distributer just to make sure it was 100% safe! I can’t wait to add more Minot’s candles to my growing collection.

Neatly Nested: This shop in South Boston has the cutest collection of home decor and gifts. It’s impossible to walk out without at least one things for yourself in addition to any gifts you intend to purchase. They’re offering shipping via USPS and in-store pickup for those local to Boston.

Chappy Wrap: I mean, how many good things can I say about these blankets? We are obsessed. The boys have mini’s right now and are getting midis for Christmas (the Little Blue Truck-esque print they’re getting is linked here). I have one in my office at all times. Tim tries to steal mine every chance he gets. They are truly the best quality blankets and they would make an amazing holiday gift, baby gift, or new mama gift.

Gooseneck Vineyards: I don’t know about you, but I appreciate getting wine as a gift. After a tasting with Gooseneck Vineyards a few weeks ago, I’ve found the first Chardonnay I truly enjoy and Gooseneck’s cab sauv is my new winter go-to.

Be sure to head over to Instagram for a fun giveaway featuring some of our favorite local businesses, too! Happy holiday shopping!
